The gangway to a submarine displayed at the Intrepid Museum in Manhattan was damaged today after a strong wave caused by a nearby cruise ship rocked it loose, authorities said.

The incident occurred around 8 a.m. as a Norwegian Star cruiseliner was attempting to turn into its berth just north of the Air, Sea and Space Museum on 12th Avenue at West 46th Street, according to Coast Guard officials and the museum’s official Facebook page.

The thrust of the cruise ship’s engine created a wave that moved the retired Growler submarine, causing its gangway to fall into the water, officials added.

No one was injured, and the USS Intrepid battleship — a national landmark — was not affected. The museum was closed at the time.
