Two days after lauding a proposed waste-to-energy plant as a potential economic boost for Staten Island, Mayor Bloomberg yesterday caved in to pressure from local officials and yanked the plan.

The Sanitation Department amended its request for proposals to exclude the Fresh Kills landfill.

During a visit to the landfill Wednesday, Bloomberg said jobs at the Visy recycling plant might be jeopardized if the plant went elsewhere. But elected officials were virtually unanimous in their opposition.
