Eric Garner’s widow won’t be accepting an apology from the NYPD cop who applied the chokehold on her husband during his fatal arrest last July.
“Hell, no!” Esaw Snipes shot back, when asked at a tear-filled Harlem press conference with the Rev. Al Sharpton Wednesday if she would accept Daniel Pantaleo’s condolences.
“The time for remorse would have been when my husband was yelling to breathe!”
Snipes complained that Pantaleo, who offered the Garner family “condolences” in a statement Wednesday, is still earning a paycheck, while her husband is “six feet under.”
“I’m looking for a way to feed my kids now,” she said angrily. “Who’s gonna play Santa Claus for my grandkids this year?”
Garner’s mom, Gwen Carr, sais she was “truly disappointed” that a Staten Island grand jury cleared the officer of all charges. “I don’t know what video they were looking at — evidently, it wasn’t the same one the rest of the world was looking at,” she said. “This thing is breaking my heart, just breaking me apart.”
Eric GarnerAPSharpton also announced he’s organizing a protest in Washington, DC, for Dec. 13.
“It is time for a national march to deal with a national crisis,” he said. “We are going to bring Ferguson, Cleveland [where cops fatally shot a 12-year-old boy] and all of New York to the nation’s capital to say enough is enough.”
He blasted state prosecutors who work “hand in hand with the local police.”
“No amount of secret grand juries, with . . . prosecutors that put up evidence that we do not know, is going to stop people from raising the questions and demanding the answers,” he said.
