About 45 homes were evacuated early yesterday on Long Island after a gasoline tanker crashed and leaked 2,000 gallons onto the street.

The truck hit a tree and flipped over at 6 a.m. in Woodmere. The driver did not appear to be injured, cops said, but a faint scent of gasoline stuck around for hours.

Residents were allowed to return by early afternoon, police said.
