Rep. Charles Rangel received $2,500 in gifts from a General Electric PAC in the past three months, according to federal financial disclosures released last week.

The contributions come four years after Rangel flip-flopped on his opposition to a tax-break extension for GE.

The 21-term Harlem Democrat decided to support the tax break, and the company’s philanthropic arm then donated $30 million to the city, more than a third of which went to Rangel’s district.

Two years later, in 2010, GE didn’t have to pay federal income taxes, thanks in large part to the break Rangel helped extend.

Yesterday, at a campaign rally in Harlem, Rangel maintained he never flip-flopped on the GE tax breaks.

“That’s nothing more than a lie,” he said. “. . . I have always been for cleaning up the tax code. That includes General Electric.”
