A year ago, Tim Sweeney, a personal trainer and former “Mr. Connecticut” bodybuilder, could hardly walk, even with the help of oxygen — and now he’s planning to run in next month’s New York City Marathon.

“I was probably weeks from dying,” Sweeney, 33, of Fairfield, said yesterday.

The fitness buff has cystic fibrosis and got the gift of life last Nov. 10 when he received a double lung transplant at New York-Presbyterian Hospital/Columbia University Medical Center.

“I feel better than I ever felt in my entire life,” said Sweeney. He’ll run with his surgeon, Dr. Joshua Sonett.
