A giant sinkhole opened on a Manhattan street Monday, nearly swallowing up an SUV and forcing street closures, fire department sources said.

A water main broke and created the 20-by-30-foot crater on West 167th Street near Edgecombe Avenue in Washington Heights at 3:30 a.m., the sources said.

The city closed Edgecombe Avenue from West 165th Street to West 170th Street, snarling traffic near MS 326 grade school.

“What I woke up to this morning!” one neighbor posted on Instagram, along with a photo of the dramatic sight.

“Avoid this area as its difficult for cars to get around and the street is closed,” wrote the resident under the handle SassyZazzy.

On Monday afternoon, workers were still scrambling to repair the gaping hole in the concrete.
