Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand got the backing of the Bronx Democratic party today, after much speculation over who several of the city’s county leaders would support in the potential primary race for her seat this year.

Former Tennessee Rep. Harold Ford is weighing a challenge to Gillibrand, and has been reaching out to county leaders in hopes of securing their support before the state nominating convention in May.

Bronx Democratic Party Chairman Carl Heastie, an assemblyman, said Gillibrand’s “attentiveness to the concerns of New Yorkers has been superb, and her cooperative spirit has earned her a vote of confidence from our organization.”

Heatie’s Brooklyn counterpart, Vito Lopez, is considering backing Ford.
