Thousands of veterans who served in Iraq and Afghanistan are now living in New York City with no jobs, according to Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY).

And nationwide, more than 20 percent of young vets are jobless, she says.

Gillibrand is pushing for legislation that would help the veterans get job skills.

As a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, she is backing passage of the Hiring Heroes Act of 2011.

The legislation would help veterans through training, personal employment assessments and workshops on how to write résumés and impress during interviews.
