MIDDLETOWN, N.J. — A New Jersey girl is expected to recover after being rescued from icy waters in the Sandy Hook Bay.
The Asbury Park Press reports a 14-year girl fell into the bay after 2 p.m. Tuesday while she was walking with a friend along an overflow pipe that empties into the bay in Middletown.
She spent about 20 minutes in the waist-deep waters where the temperature was below 30 degrees.
Members of the Leonardo First Aid & Rescue Squad moved her to shore on a sled, then put her on a stretcher to take her to an ambulance. She was taken to Riverview Medical Center in Red Bank for treatment of possible hypothermia.
