What the buck?

This young stag from New Jersey mistook Governors Island for Deer Park yesterday, paddling two miles across New York Harbor only to get stranded on the rocks.

Police tranquilized the beast at around 1:30 p.m. and hauled him off to Clay Pit Ponds State Park on Staten Island. His condition was not clear.

Officials said they couldn’t remember seeing a deer on the island before.

“To our knowledge, this is the first time anything like this has ever happened over here,” said Elizabeth Rapuano, spokeswoman for the Governors Island Preservation and Education Corp.
