As office towers rise at Ground Zero, the once-toxic former Deutsche Bank building is finally departing from the skyline.

The formerly 42-story tower, where two firefighters died in a 2007 blaze, is down to its fifth story.

Construction crews this week plan to permanently disable the disconnected standpipe that had doomed firefighters Joseph Graffagnino and Robert Beddia.

The pipe is no longer needed under FDNY regulations, site officials said.

Construction officials are hopeful the tower will be cleared away by the end of the year, making way for a vehicle-screening center.
