Taking nothing for granted to keep Rep. Michael Grimm’s seat in Republican hands, activists have set up a super PAC to elect Staten Island DA Dan Donovan — the prosecutor in the controversial Eric Garner case.
The People First PAC will be run by GOP operatives Jake Menges and Rob Cole of In The Field Consulting, who have ties to former Mayor Rudy Giuliani and ex-Gov. George Pataki.
Joining them will be Monica Notzon of the Bellwether Group, a top DC fund-raiser.
“It will be a significant expenditure. There are a lot of people who are going to want to help Dan,” Menges told The Post.
Grimm, who was elected to a third term in November despite facing a 20-count federal indictment, announced his resignation last week after pleading guilty to tax fraud.
Gov. Cuomo has yet to say when he will call a special election for the seat.
Donovan, a two-term district attorney who won re-election with 70 percent of the vote in 2011, is considered the favorite to win the GOP nomination in the 11th Congressional District.
He made headlines recently as the prosecutor in the non-indictment of a cop for the chokehold death of Garner.
GOP Assemblywoman Nicole Malliotakis also has expressed an interest in the race.
Potential Democratic candidates include former Rep. Mike McMahon and Staten Island Assemblyman Mike Cusick.
