New York’s top prosecutor will bring enforcement actions against at least 13 area gas stations caught gouging customers during the fuel shortage, Attorney General Eric Schneiderman said yesterday.

His office has notified the owners of stations in New York City, Long Island and Westchester County as a first step in a “wide-ranging investigation.”

Some of the stations — like Shell Northern Heights Service in Jackson Heights, Queens — were charging as much as $5.50 a gallon.

One customer in Long Island City, Queens, waited in a line stretching three blocks to get fuel from a Mobil station advertising a price of $3.89 per gallon — but ended up paying $4.99 at the pump.
