Gov. Paterson offered up his latest version of his thoughts on Lt. Gov. Richard Ravitch’s five-year budget plan this morning on John Gambling’s WOR radio show — saying that as a “holistic” approach it’s “spectacular.”

“There’s some things that I don’t know that I ideologically agree with but as a holistic document I think it’s spectacular,” said Paterson, who added that it is a “serious proposal.”

Asked about Mayor Bloomberg’s criticisms of the plan — which relies heavily on borrowing for the first three years — Paterson took a swipe at the mayor, saying that the Big Apple CEO has some of the budget-cutting autonomy that he wishes the governor had.

“When the mayor doesn’t get what he wants, he complains about the governor,” he said.

In other news, he referred to some of the things that have been written about him as “galling,” and insisted again he will be “vindicated” when a full accounting is finished over the current scandal swirling around his administration, adding, “You have to exercise patience.”

He said he expected it won’t be “too long” before he calls a special election for the seat vacation by scandal-tinged ex-Rep. Eric Massa.
