ALBANY — Gov. Cuomo’s nominee for New York’s highest court would become the first African-American woman on the seven-member Court of Appeals if confirmed by the state Senate.

Justice Sheila Abdus-Salaam was elected to the state Supreme Court in 1993, re-elected in 2007 and joined the Appellate Division in Manhattan in 2009.

The 60-year-old Barnard College and Columbia Law grad would replace Judge Theodore Jones Jr., who died in November.
