The Legislature passed an ethics-reform bill yesterday — but Gov. Paterson said he will veto it because he wants a tougher measure.

The bill “does not go far enough to address the underlying issues that have caused the people of New York to lose faith and trust in their government,” Paterson said.

The measure easily passed, 59-1, in the Senate and, 137-2, in the Assembly.

The measure would require lawmakers to disclose more of their outside business interests. But it doesn’t include provisions Paterson wants, including term limits and disclosure of clients by legislators who are practicing lawyers.

Senate Democrats said they expected to be able to override the veto.
