The Big Apple’s taxpayer-financed campaign system should go statewide, Gov. Cuomo said yesterday.

“I support a public-finance system basically modeled on the New York City system,” the governor said at a forum in Manhattan hosted by business and reform groups.

Cuomo used the event to plug lower campaign contribution and spending limits, disclosure of all campaign contributions within 48 hours, stronger enforcement by the state Board of Elections, and tougher prohibitions against lawmakers using campaign cash for personal expenses.

“The public is aware more than ever of the money in campaigns” following last year’s presidential race, said Cuomo — who had nearly $22.5 million in his own campaign account as of January.

The Post has found the city’s system has been abused by candidates using public matching funds for travel, food and parking tickets, among other things.
