Gov. Cuomo is considering laying off from 10,000 to 12,000 state workers — more than 5 percent of the workforce, it was reported last night.
The governor is preparing to submit his budget for the upcoming fiscal year as the state tries to close a $10 billion budget deficit.
“The dark days of the ’70s have returned,” The Wall Street Journal quoted an unnamed GOP senator as saying.
The last time a governor threatened so many layoffs was in 1990 when Andrew’s father, Mario Cuomo, warned he might lay off 10 percent of the state workforce.
