ALBANY — Gov. Paterson yesterday said the ethics charges against a fellow Harlem Democrat, Rep. Charles Rangel, are “trumped up” and called on other party officials to rally behind the embattled congressman.

Such support “would demonstrate that we are not going to buy these kind of trumped-up allegations,” the governor told radio station Kiss 98.7FM.

“He has not been charged with anything,” Paterson continued. “Let’s just remember that.”
