Gov spars over span
ALBANY — It’s the Battle of Tappan Zee — and a possible preview of the battle for the Executive Mansion.
Gov. Cuomo ripped a potential 2014 GOP challenger yesterday for delaying a vote to support a new Tappan Zee Bridge — and for pushing a cross-Hudson mass-transit bus system the governor says would double the cost of the bridge-replacement project to $10 billion.
First-term Westchester County Executive Rob Astorino, a rising state GOP star who is seen as a potential gubernatorial candidate in two years, said he supports replacing the aging span and is willing to phase in a new transit system but wants more information before voting to approve the project for federal loans.
