ALBANY — Gov. Cuomo and education insiders said yesterday that they’re optimistic about reaching a deal on a new teacher-evaluation system before his Thursday deadline.

“People expect it to be done,” one state Capitol source said. “Certainly, the pressure there with the deadline makes the time frame happen.”

Cuomo has warned the New York State United Teachers Union and the state Education Department that he’ll impose a system if they can’t reach an agreement on an acceptable system themselves.

“If I were wagering, I would wager yes,” Cuomo said about a deal by Thursday.
