Prosecutors want their own expert to evaluate a man accused of stabbing his parents to death in their Staten Island home.
Psychiatric exams by two independent doctors last month found that Eric Bellucci was unfit for trial. The Staten Island Advance says that if the prosecution’s doctor agreed, he would be placed in a secure psychiatric facility and periodically re-evaluated.
An indictment charges Bellucci with first-degree murder and other counts in the Oct. 13 deaths of Arthur and Marian Bellucci.
Authorities said Bellucci fled to Israel after the killings. He was arrested at the Tel Aviv airport after trying to buy a plane ticket to Beijing.
