GPS nails cabbies
Taxi officials are using GPS to hunt down foolish hacks who brazenly get behind the wheel with suspended licenses.
Investigators have doled out 2,562 summonses over the past two years using a program that cross-references a list of suspended hacks with the ID numbers each driver must punch into a computer at the beginning of a shift.
Taxi and Limousine Commission officials download the information every week.
The program is expected to bring in $1.8 million in revenue in 2010 and $3.4 million in 2011, the TLC said.
