After eight of years of delays, Whole Foods Market yesterday cleared its final legal hurdle to open its first Brooklyn store.

The city’s Board of Standards and Appeals approved a zoning change needed for Whole Foods to break ground on a 52,000-square-foot store along the banks of the Gowanus Canal.

The project, however, is different from the 68,000-square-foot store first planned for the site at Third Avenue and Third Street.

It includes a 20,000-square-foot greenhouse, added at the community’s request, and fewer parking spots — 248, not 430. The store is looking to open in mid-2013, company officials said.
