Five non-operational grenades were found inside a piece of checked luggage at Newark Liberty Airport, federal officials said yesterday.

The grenades were discovered Saturday in the bag of a Belgium-bound passenger who surrendered the items, the Transportation Security Administration said in a statement.

There was no impact to airport operations, the TSA said.
