The city Correction Department has fired a firearms instructor after discovering he kept a cache of unregistered weapons, including two illegal assault rifles, at home, officials said yesterday.

Jason Katanic, a 13-year veteran of the city’s jail system, got the ax last month after an administrative-law judge determined he repeatedly misled superiors.

“This is not a case of a minor oversight in filing paperwork,” Judge Joan Salzman wrote.
