A man was arrested Sunday after acting “irrationally” inside a Long Island mall, leading cops on a car chase and assaulting a police officer, cops said.
The suspect, identified by police as 26-year-old Archie Alexander, fled from officers in a Mustang and struck a police cruiser in the parking lot of the Walt Whitman Mall in Huntington Station before crashing into a Rolls-Royce, according to authorities and online photos.
Security at the Walt Whitman Mall had first called police around 2:15 p.m. to report a man “acting irrationally” at the shopping center, the Suffolk County Police Department said.
When cops found Alexander, he took off in his white Mustang, hitting the unoccupied police car. He then sped south on Walt Whitman Road and crashed into the high-end car at Pinelawn Road and Route 110 in Melville, according to police.
As Alexander was being arrested, he slugged a cop in the face, police said. He was charged with criminal mischief, assault, reckless endangerment, unlawful fleeing a police officer and resisting arrest.
Both the suspect and officer were treated at Huntington Hospital.
