Cash-strapped passengers were out of luck today as thousand of cabs were without credit machines for hours.

A partial hardware failure caused the system that services 6,000 cabbies to go down at about 2 p.m. and extended through rush hour.

The system was fully back up at around 9:15 p.m., a spokesman for the company said.
