MAMARONECK, N.Y. — A man who spent 24 years in prison for murder is returning to court on a burglary charge related to another killing.

Reginald Powell of White Plains was caught last week in an SUV that belonged to 49-year-old Jennifer Katz, who was later found dead in her Mamaroneck home.

The 54-year-old Powell has not been charged in Katz’s death but police labeled him a suspect. His arraignment on the burglary charge is scheduled for Thursday afternoon in Mamaroneck village court.

New York City police say Powell was driving Katz’s Toyota Highlander when he was stopped last week in Manhattan on a traffic violation. They say he had drugs and some stolen jewelry.

Powell was convicted in 1984 of killing a cab driver in New Rochelle.
