BOSTON — A detention hearing has been postponed for a Pakistani man arrested during the investigation of the failed Times Square bombing.

Aftab Ali Khan was scheduled to be in federal court Friday for the hearing, but a judge granted a postponement until Jan. 6 after Khan’s lawyer said she needed more time to prepare.

Khan, of Watertown, is charged with immigration fraud and lying to investigators. He is not accused of knowing about the botched attack.

A criminal complaint says that Khan gave $4,900 to Faisal Shahzad (FY’-sul shah-ZAHD’), of Bridgeport, Conn., who was later convicted in the bombing attempt. Federal prosecutors said it was part of a transaction to get an equivalent amount of money to Khan’s family in Pakistan.
