An out-of-control driver crashed into a hearse that was heading up a funeral procession on the George Washington Bridge on Thursday morning, Port Authority police said.

The hearse and a limousine driving behind it were both part of the procession on the lower level of the bridge headed to New York City at about 10:30 a.m. when a man driving a Ford commercial van suddenly slammed into both vehicles. The hearse was carrying a casket with a body in it at the time, said Port Authority spokesman Joe Pentangelo.

Police arrested the van driver on a handful of traffic infractions and unrelated warrants, said Pentangelo. The crash caused authorities to close two lanes of the bridge. No one was injured.
