Officials of a Long Island fire district used credit cards to make “clearly inappropriate” charges, including beer, baseball games and a $1,840 feast at a restaurant, according to an audit by state Comptroller Tom DiNapoli.

The Elmont volunteers used the funds for “expenses” charged to nine credit cards — including $100 worth of brews for a celebration, another $699 for food at a Baltimore restaurant and $1,196 for tickets to a Baltimore Oriole game, said DiNapoli.

He claimed that the $1,840 meal was not even backed up by a receipt.

DiNapoli said more than $38,000 worth of expenses “did not contain sufficient documentation,” and more than $26,000 of those credit-card charges had no receipts at all.

Elmont fire officials, who told DiNapoli they were taking steps to stop the inappropriate practices, could not be reached for comment.
