It’s official, winter has arrived!

Snow fell on Gotham at the heart of rush hour on Tuesday, as New Yorkers braced for a day of slushy-and-salty streets.

It’s expected to snow on and off until at least 4 p.m. and then subside in time for New Yorkers to go home.

“The  rush hour should go quite well tonight,”  Sanitation Commissioner John Doherty said.

The snow wasn’t as heavy as feared — and more importantly temperatures stayed in the mid-30s, preventing  the buildup of ice.

But 400 salt spreaders  will be on the job late Tuesday night and Wednesday morning, officials said, to alleviate icy roads as temperatures fall to 24 degrees.

“We’ll definitely be salting throughout the night,” Doherty said. “they’ll be on a long shift tonight, probably working 12 hours.”
