Rescuers on Long Island saved a 1,000-pound swimmer — an endangered, 6-foot-long Leatherback Turtle — trapped in mooring lines of lobster pots.
“This is the first time we’ve ever encountered a live one,” said Officer Matt Funaro. “We were able to free her from one pot, but she started doing alligator rolls” and doing dives.
But with help from the Riverhead Foundation, they cut her free after her ordeal Monday.
