Room attendants in city hotels should be issued “panic buttons” to instantly call for help if they are attacked by a guest, their union said yesterday.

The gadgets would be similar to those in the “I’ve fallen and I can’t get up” TV ads, officials said.

The New York Hotel and Motel Trades Council — which on Tuesday got the Pierre and the Sofitel to agree to give panic buttons to room attendants after recent high-profile attacks — will demand in next year’s contract talks that the devices be made mandatory at 200 hotels employing union members.

“I think that, given the recent incidents, it would be an added security measure that would be helpful to employees,” said council spokesman John Turchiano.

Assemblyman Rory Lancman (D-Queens) has proposed a bill to mandate panic buttons system, but said hotels should issue them immediately.
