Heroes’ welcome
In a stirring salute to Flag Day and the Army’s 235th birthday yesterday, 350 local soldiers-to-be were sworn in at the base of the Statue of Liberty.
It was the first time the Army had administered the enlistment oath at Lady Liberty.
“What a great way to be sworn in,” said retired Col. Jack Jacobs, a Medal of Honor recipient who gave the oath.
