One person was killed when fire tore through a residential high-rise on Sutton Place in Manhattan on Tuesday, authorities said.

The blaze broke out on the 14th floor of a 21-story building in East Midtown, on Sutton Place South and East 55th Street, about 2 p.m. One person died at the scene, officials said.

It took 78 firefighters to bring the fire under control, but it has yet to be completely put out, according to authorities.

The cause of the blaze was unknown. No other injuries were reported.
