Thousands of New York City area residents are without power due to downed power lines caused by high winds.
The Long Island Power Authority says blackouts are affecting 7,292 customers on Long Island and the Rockaways Wednesday afternoon.
Con Edison says 4,455 customers in Westchester County and 883 in New York City are without power.
The National Weather Service says it has gotten reports of sustained winds of 20 to 25 mph in the New York region, with gusts of 50 mph.
