Two people were injured — one seriously — when a tree fell onto a vehicle amid heavy winds on Riverside Drive near West 165th Street in Washington Heights on Monday afternoon, an FDNY spokesman said.

The seriously hurt victim was rushed to NewYork-Presbyterian/Columbia University Irving Medical Center. The second person suffered minor injuries and refused medical attention at the scene.

The wind also caused portions of the Henry Hudson Parkway to temporarily closed as the FDNY and other agencies responded to reports of downed trees on the roadway, authorities said.

A photograph posted to the FDNY Twitter account shows firefighters working to clear a tree from the parkway near West 190th Street in Washington Heights.

A fallen tree also prompted authorities to temporarily close all southbound lanes at the George Washington Bridge, according to a tweet posted by the City’s Office of Emergency Management. The lanes were re-opened approximately an hour later.

“A High Wind Warning remains in effect until later this evening,” according to a different post to the NYC Emergency Management Twitter account. “This means a hazardous high wind event is expected/occurring. Sustained wind speeds of at least 40 mph or gusts of 58 mph or more can lead to property damage. Secure loose property & exercise caution while traveling.”
