Two men were killed yesterday while fixing a broken-down Nissan on the side of Long Island’s Meadowbrook Parkway when they were struck by a pickup truck, authorities said.
The driver of the GMC pickup, which had Virginia plates, “either didn’t observe or failed to see the lanes merging,” said Capt. Kevin Buchal of the State Police.
The driver stayed at the scene. The accident is still under investigation, police said, but no alcohol use or criminality is suspected.
Police said the car was parked on the shoulder.
The lunchtime crash closed southbound Meadowbrook State Parkway between the Southern State Parkway and Babylon Turnpike for hours yesterday afternoon.
