Hiram gets poll-axed
ALBANY — Disgraced former state Sen. Hiram Monserrate, booted from his seat last month for assaulting his girlfriend, is way behind Assemblyman José Peralta in Tuesday’s special-election battle for the 13th Senate District seat in Queens, a new poll shows.
A Siena College survey found Peralta leading Monserrate, running on the “Yes, We Can Party” line, by a massive 60 to 15 percent.
Peralta was ahead by more than 50 points among Democrats, 30 among independents and 2 among Republicans.
That wasn’t the only bad news for the gal-pal-pummeling pol. A federal appeals court yesterday denied his bid to stop the special election.
He had asked for the halt as part of a lawsuit claiming his expulsion from the Senate was unconstitutional.
