The Hispanic Society — an Upper Manhattan museum showcasing Spanish and Latin American art — says it’s so broke that it needs to start charging visitors for the first time in its 102-year history.

The West 155th Street museum and research library recently went to court for permission to institute a fee for special exhibits because its 1904 trust document by philanthropist founder Archer Milton Huntington says the institution must remain free.

The board said it plans to build a new facility on museum grounds for ticketed temporary exhibitions while keeping the main entrance hall free.
