The New-York Historical Society will start displaying a rare Abraham Lincoln-signed copy of the 13th Amendment on Feb. 1, the 147th anniversary of the signing of the law that constitutionally banned slavery.
The document, one of at least 14 Lincoln-inked copies of the 13th Amendment, once belonged to Schuyler Colfax, Ulysses S. Grant’s vice president. It will be on view until April 1.
