Gov. Hochul is out with a new campaign ad touting her record on crime as polls show her in a dead heat with GOP rival Lee Zeldin.

“A safe walk home at night, a subway ride free of fear, a safer New York for every child — that’s what Kathy Hochul is working for as governor,” says a narrator in the ad titled “Safe.”

The spot touts legislation Hochul signed tightening the state’s gun laws and her efforts to reform the state’s bail reform law in her 2022 budget.

“You deserve to feel safe, and as your governor, I won’t stop working until you do,” Hochul later says into the camera as dramatic music plays in the background.

The ad is a message change for Hochul, as polls indicate the state’s surging crime has become a top issue for voters.
