Media mogul Barry Diller’s “Hollywood on the Hudson” revamp of Manhattan’s Pier 55 as a public park and arts venue has gotten a judge’s green light — at least for the summer.
The temporary lifting of an injunction granted to opponents of the 2.7-acre park that Diller, his fashion-designer wife Diane von Furstenberg and Oscar-winning producer Scott Rudin plan to build will allow the $130 million plan to proceed until the next court hearing on Sept. 6.
A group called City Club of New York sued last year saying the revitalized pier would wipe out local marine life.
“The City Club should take this cue to finally end its absurd crusade against the wishes of the community,” the Hollywood on the Hudson group said in a statement.
Richard Emery, the attorney for the City Club, remained optimistic of winning on appeal.
“Diller does that at his peril, in that [the piles] will have to be removed if we win — and the appellate court ruled that we had shown a likelihood of success on the merits,” Emery said in a statement.
