A homeless couple was stabbed by an unidentified man Saturday night on South Street near Catherine Slip on the Lower East Side, police said.

“The girl was stabbed in the abdomen three times, blood was coming out of her mouth, you could see her guts coming out, she looked down at her shirt and saw it coming out,” said a 39-year-old eyewitness who declined to give her name.

“They were arguing but you don’t get involved in an argument,” said the witness, who believed the stabber had been trying to mediate.

“It is a shame really, we are all getting housing next week,” said Mike Costa, 29, who said the victims lived on the spot where the violence occurred since June.

The stabber was skinny and wore a white shirt and black shorts.

The victims were taken to Bellevue Hospital.
