A Brooklyn hospital that filed for bankruptcy and attempted to merge with nearby facilities in order to stave off closure has finally thrown in the towel.

Interfaith Medical Center in Bedford-Stuyvesant filed a legal motion late Tuesday seeking approval to begin closing on Aug. 15.

The filing in federal bankruptcy court comes less than two weeks after the state Department of Health rejected a last-ditch restructuring plan submitted by the ailing hospital.

The agency must also OK a separate closure plan so that the facility can transfer out patients and shut down operations, a process that’s expected to be concluded on Nov. 14.

Public Advocate Bill de Blasio, a mayoral candidate who has been a vocal opponent of similar hospital closures in the borough, said he still plans to fight to keep Interfaith open.
