The owner of a Bronx house where a firefighter was injured battling a blaze Sunday night was arrested Monday for running an illegal marijuana-grow operation there, cops said.
Luis Roman, 50, was taken into custody by police, authorities said. Charges against him were pending.
Roman had been growing large amounts of marijuana at the house on Mayflower Avenue near Roberts Avenue in the Pelham Bay neighborhood, cops said.
On Sunday, flames erupted at the house about 8:20 p.m., and an FDNY firefighter was injured when he fell off a ladder while battling the blaze. The 38-year-old smoke-eater plummeted about 30 feet to the pavement, injuring his leg and back, fire officials said.
The injured firefighter was rushed to Jacobi Medical Center in serious but stable condition.
“He’s a very lucky individual,” FDNY Commissioner Daniel Nigro said.
