Bah, humbug!

An MTA committee of grinches yesterday swatted down a proposal to restore some of the service that was cut from the system last year, with one calling any extra spending at the cash-strapped agency “suicidal.”

The MTA’s finance committee, by a 7-2 vote, rejected a proposed amendment that would have added $20 million to the budget to restore service.

“Believe me, we can provide more service and get leaner in other areas,” said board member Allen Cappelli when he introduced the optimistic measure.

Last year’s $93 million cut eliminated dozens of bus routes and two subway lines.
